Asphalt Repair & Sealcoating

Crack repair, pothole patching, and sealcoating to protect asphalt driveways and lots from Ohio's freeze-thaw damage.

Maintenance Is What Makes Asphalt Last

Sealcoating is the single biggest factor in how long an asphalt driveway or lot lasts in Licking County. The asphalt binder that holds the surface together breaks down under UV exposure and, more importantly here, lets water into the base through hairline cracks — water that then freezes, expands, and turns a hairline crack into a pothole within a season or two.

New asphalt needs about 6–12 months to cure before its first sealcoat, so the surface oils have time to settle. After that, we recommend sealcoating every 2–3 years, along with prompt crack filling as soon as cracks appear rather than waiting for a full resurfacing to become necessary.

"We tell customers straight up: sealcoating isn't cosmetic, it's the maintenance step that actually extends the life of the pavement underneath. The driveways we see fail early in Licking County are almost always ones where a crack sat open through one or two winters before anyone addressed it. Filling a crack costs next to nothing compared to what it costs to fix the pothole and base damage it turns into."
  • Crack filling and pothole patching
  • Sealcoating on a 2–3 year maintenance cycle
  • New asphalt sealcoat timing (6–12 months post-install)
  • Residential driveways and commercial lots

Wait 6–12 months after a new asphalt install before the first sealcoat. Sealing too early traps oils that haven't finished curing; waiting too long leaves the surface unprotected during its most vulnerable early period.
Every 2–3 years is the standard maintenance interval in Ohio's climate. Driveways with more sun exposure or heavier vehicle traffic may benefit from being on the shorter end of that range.
Isolated potholes and cracked sections can usually be patched, especially if caught early. If the asphalt shows widespread alligator cracking or the base has failed across a large area, patching becomes a short-term fix and full repaving is the better investment. We'll assess honestly before quoting.
Yes — sealcoating protects the binder from UV breakdown and, critically for Ohio, keeps water from getting into the base through surface cracks and causing freeze-thaw damage. It's the lowest-cost thing you can do to extend the life of an asphalt surface.
