Licking County Concrete & Paving

Concrete Driveways

New concrete driveways and full replacements, poured over a properly compacted base and finished to hold up through Ohio winters.

Concrete Driveways Built for Ohio's Freeze-Thaw Cycles

A concrete driveway is one of the highest-value improvements you can make to a Licking County property, but only if the base underneath it is done right. We excavate to proper depth, compact ODOT 304 crushed limestone aggregate as the base course, and form the slab to the correct thickness before anything gets poured — 4 inches for a standard residential driveway, more for areas that see heavier vehicles.

We cut control joints at the correct spacing for the slab thickness, which is what actually prevents random cracking as the concrete cures and later as it expands and contracts with the seasons. Finish options include standard broom finish, exposed aggregate, and stamped or decorative patterns — see our stamped concrete page for pattern and color options.

"When customers ask us why their old driveway cracked into slabs after only a few winters, the answer is almost always the same — it was poured over dirt or a thin, uncompacted base with no real joint plan. We won't shortcut the base to hit a lower number on a bid. It's the part nobody sees, and it's the part that determines whether the driveway lasts 10 years or 30."
  • 4-inch minimum slab thickness, thicker for heavier vehicles
  • Compacted ODOT 304 gravel base under every pour
  • Control joints spaced to the slab thickness
  • Broom, exposed aggregate, or stamped finish

A standard residential concrete driveway should be at least 4 inches thick. If you park a boat, RV, or heavier commercial vehicle on it regularly, we recommend 5–6 inches with reinforcement. We size the slab to how you'll actually use it, not a generic minimum.
It depends on the application. Many residential driveways today use fiber-reinforced concrete mixed directly into the pour, which resists cracking well for standard use. For heavier loads or longer spans we add rebar or wire mesh. We'll recommend the right approach for your specific driveway during the estimate.
Plan on 24–48 hours before foot traffic and about 7 days before regular vehicle use, even though the concrete keeps gaining strength for close to 28 days. We'll give you a specific timeline based on the weather during your pour.
A standard single-car driveway typically runs $3,500–$7,000, and a two-car driveway runs $7,000–$14,000, depending on size, base conditions, and finish. See our full driveway cost guide for a detailed breakdown, or compare against asphalt in our concrete vs. asphalt guide.
Generally no — we remove the existing surface and inspect the subgrade before pouring new concrete. Pouring over a failing surface just telegraphs the same cracks and settling into the new slab within a season or two.
